As highlighted during the final athletics sharing assembly of the year this morning, middle school athletes got after it this spring. From the fields to the courts to the trails, middle school athletes spread their talents over nine different offerings and competed in three separate athletic sessions.
Seventh Graders Research and Educate on Climate Change
In seven grade science, students have been learning about climate change and the greenhouse effect through a variety of different lenses, including evaluating climate data, conducting research, performing simulations, and doing interviews. Students were tasked with using what they learned about climate change in order to educate an audience of their choice about the science behind the greenhouse effect.
Fifth Graders Write, Perform Two-Voice Poems
In humanities class, students are finishing up the novel Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. As one of their projects for this novel, students had to write a two-voice poem. A two-voice poem is a poem that is written from two different points of view on the same topic.
In the third and final three-week mini-season this spring, the eighth-grade class chose from lacrosse, tennis, and track & field. A total of 14 athletes selected track & field, and they brought their “A” game.

Eighth grader Amanie Yusef studied chemotherapy for her Capstone journey. In addition to writing a research paper, creating an educational animated movie, and conducting an interview, Amanie wanted to reach out to children undergoing chemotherapy. Due to the pandemic, connecting with an organization to work with directly was challenging. She
Tennis athletes have outnumbered their lacrosse and track counterparts in all three sessions this spring. As each middle school grade cycles through the tennis, lacrosse, and track offerings, tennis has drawn nearly half of the class each time.
