The Annette Raphel Scholarship for Leadership and Diversity
The Scholarship
The Annette Raphel Scholarship for Leadership and Diversity was established in 2016 to honor the retiring Head of School, Annette Raphel. Awarded annually to a new, incoming sixth grade student, the Raphel Scholarship is a three-year, full-tuition merit scholarship. All applicants to sixth grade who live in the Greater Boston area and identify as African-American/Black or Hispanic/Latinx are eligible to apply. The Raphel Scholar will be selected based on their strong academic potential, leadership traits, interest in contributing to our robust arts and athletics programs, and demonstrated commitment to living Belmont Day School’s six core values: honesty, caring, joy, responsibility, respect, and excellence.
The School
If your child is selected to attend Belmont Day as a Raphel Scholar, they will join our close-knit community of students, teachers, and families as a sixth grader. Our middle school offers challenging academics, opportunities for students to apply their learning through innovative group and individual projects, small class sizes, and excellent teachers passionate about teaching and helping their students achieve their full potential. All students participate in arts programming—including studio art, music, drama, technology, and woodworking classes—and on athletics teams with many sports offered, including basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, and tennis. Our supportive community helps middle schoolers to develop as students and leaders in a safe, secure environment, and our graduates go on to achieve at some of the best high schools in Greater Boston.
