Seventh and eighth graders began their new trimester of arts classes last week. One of the new offerings is a soft sculpture class. Students are working with a variety of materials, including fabric and wool. For their first challenge, students designed a six-sided sculpture made from cloth. After creating a lifesize paper model, they used fabric to create a cube, a rectangular prism, or any six-sided form. The surfaces of their sculptures include top stitching, embroidery, applique, and painted details. With sewing machines, artists sew together the fabric and will add stuffing to create these three-dimensional artworks.
