Climate Activism Spans Generations

July 24, 2020

Middle school students and faculty were joined at their weekly climate lunch meeting by three veteran activists, Michael Sales and Dr. Jane Heinze-Frey of Elders for Climate Action, and Ron D’Addario, a founding member of the Reading Climate Action Group.

Everyone exchanged stories about how they became involved in climate activism, what actions can be taken now, and strategies for meeting the challenges of keeping a grassroots group moving.

Then in June, the group joined in conversation with alumna Margo Danahy ’17 who is a rising senior at Belmont High School. Margo shared her own experiences of climate activism.

The takeaways? As seventh grade student Aviva Pearlmutter-Bearson wrote in her notes, “We have the opportunity to remake the world; we have to make a change, so we will make a change. We should not hesitate.”
