Athletics Update: Varsity Ultimate Finds Its Stride

It was a slow start to the spring for the varsity ultimate team. After the first two games were canceled due to bad weather, the team opened with lackluster performances and entered last weekend’s Middle School Jamboree with a 1-2 record. Despite the slow start, Coach d’Arbeloff remained optimistic about his team’s season and challenged the squad to turn it around at the Jamboree. Thanks to strong veteran leadership, the team responded to the challenge and finished the tournament undefeated with wins over Arlington, Hopkinton, and Winchester. Zach Cash had a strong day handling and did a great job making in-game adjustments to the offensive sets. On the other side of the disc, Luke Brenneman continued to shine on defense, limiting the opponent’s scoring opportunities throughout the afternoon. Some underclassmen also made their presence felt as Calum Dunbar, Ben Fleming, and Kiernan Patel, all had their best performances of the season. Later in the week, the team carried their momentum into a lopsided win (15-2) over Carroll, having found their stride on the field.

  • Andrew Green scored the go-ahead goal with 30 seconds remaining in the boys’ lacrosses’ dramatic 6-5 win over Fenn. William Li made nine saves in net for the Blue & Gold.
  • Penelope Bern (fourth singles) recorded varsity tennis’ only win during a 7-1 loss to Fessenden this week. Alexander Kiraly and Olivia Garrity (fourth doubles) lost a close one, 6-4.
  • The junior varsity ultimate team lost to Fayerweather 7-4. Wyatt Baker had some great throws. Soleil Flanagan played solid defense, and Noah Yang was a steady handler in defeat.
  • The girls’ lacrosse program was rained out this week, but Annika Vittal, Liv Dawson, Brynn Franklin, and Jovana Zivanovic are ready for their final Friday Night Scoops.
  • The junior varsity tennis team beat Nashoba 6-2. Nuria Kumar-Warikoo and Zazoue Marsan played great and have been hitting with more consistency lately.
  • The track & field team has almost reached ten state qualifiers, which would be a new program record. Sam Leviton and Quinn Clark lead the way for this talented group of athletes.
  • The mountain biking team continues to crush long rides on Monday afternoons. Altay Jomazer and Ewan Wheeler have really improved their endurance and technical riding this year.
