Changemakers Raise $5,000 for Gaining Ground

May 26, 2023

We are proud to present the final tally for our second grade changemakers’ efforts to raise funds for Gaining Ground. During Read for Seeds, this group of second graders read 59,774 pages in two weeks and raised $5,097.84 to support this non-profit, organic farm in Concord that donates all of its produce to people experiencing food insecurity. The money raised by second grade goes directly to the Gaining Ground’s seed budget. To extend their contributions to Gaining Ground, on Community Service Day, the class spent the morning working alongside the farmers to plant seeds and do other farm chores.

Last year, Gaining Ground grew and distributed over 120,000 pounds of organic produce to local hunger relief agencies. Thank everyone who supported the second graders by making a pledge, reading alongside them, and cheering for them every step of the way.
