The middle school arts elective in woodworking is exploring shadows. The class is casting a whole new light on how students approached creating lamps. The focus of their designs was not the aesthetic of the lamp structure itself, but rather the light profile and shadow created by the it. By overcoming a number of challenges, including light source location, delicate details, and limitations of wood as a building material, students' lamps shine brightly while casting distinctive shadows.
