What’s Happening in Middle School Theater Arts?
The first term of theater arts classes for middle school students wrapped up recently and we are now into our second term of offerings. These include Special Effects Make Up, Acting in Mask, and Footlight Productions (how to sing, act, and dance onstage).
Last week, students in grades seven and eight completed courses in Costume Design for the Stage, Special Effects Make Up, Devising Theater, and Improvisation. Fourteen sixth grade students are completing their theater launch class next week. In this class they have been exploring and learning improvisation, physical theater and voice projection techniques, acting in mask, radio drama performance, creation of human and non-human characters, as well as staging and performing a scene from Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Photos below feature final renderings of original costume designs; students negotiating ideas for a devised story: and sixth graders learning physical techniques, in mask, and performing a scene from Macbeth.
