Mentoring New Teachers
The Belmont Day School Associate Teacher Program offers an exciting opportunity for teaching and learning. In collaboration with the Lesley University Graduate School of Education, the program prepares prospective teachers for positions in early childhood education or elementary education. Graduates of the program complete requirements for a Master of Education degree as well as Massachusetts teaching certification.
Associate teachers spend a year working in two classroom placements, beginning their first placement in late August during faculty orientation, and moving to their second classroom assignments in January. Alongside the Belmont Day School faculty, they teach in all subject areas. In addition to experiencing classroom life, associates attend regularly scheduled seminars conducted by Belmont Day School faculty and complete coursework at Lesley University.
Associates are an integral part of the Belmont Day School community. They are included in curriculum meetings, school functions, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development workshops. The combination of classroom practice, academic study, and professional and social interaction provides a demanding, exhilarating, and enormously rewarding experience.
