Varied Needs, Varied Options
Extended Day
The extended day program serves children in pre-k and kindergarten,
Monday through Thursday from 12:30 until 3:30 p.m. In extended day, teachers
develop thematic activities that integrate math, science, social studies, and
language arts. Rest time and recess are also part of the extended day schedule.
Children bring lunch and a snack from home; the school provides milk. To provide
continuity for classroom activities and to insure opportunity for completion of
projects, students must register for a Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday/Thursday schedule,
or for all four days.
After School
The after-school program serves students in all grades. From Monday through Thursday
after school is available from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. Siblings of seventh and eighth graders
may attend from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Two Friday options are offered: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
or 12:30 - 5:45 p.m. Activities include arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games,
music, and special projects developed by the students and staff. A homework period is
built into the schedule for older students. The school provides a snack. Children
attend the after-school program on a regular basis and must sign up in advance each
semester for one to five afternoons.
Enrichment Activities
Each semester BDS offers a variety of after-school enrichment activities,
such as chess, art, science club, tap dancing, creative writing,
African drumming, and Mandarin Chinese classes. These activities
and clubs are available to all BDS students whether or not they attend
the after-school program. The school also offers piano lessons with
a private instructor. |
